Ike’s love of craft beer began back in the early 2000s. Getting his start as a home brewer, he quickly developed a passion for the process and possibilities of brewing, culminating in the opening of BuckleDown in late-2013. Ike is lover of classic beer styles, especially European lagers and British ales. On the flip-side most of his innovation brewing at BuckleDown revolves around exploring the possibilities of hops. Blending and melding the flavors of new and experimental varieties has been a huge creative outlet for the last several years.
Who We Are And How We Got Here
BuckleDown Brewing was founded in 2013 by friends, Ike Orcutt (Head Brewer) and Sean Mahoney in Lyons, IL; A small, hard-working community just outside of Chicago.
We share a philosophy that two qualities that make great brewers (or great anything for that matter) are creativity and determination. Plus, there’s something uniquely gratifying about working hard, working with your hands, and making something you are proud of.
We’re putting that philosophy into practice by brewing small-batch craft beer. From hopped up American IPAs to Lagers to Pastry Stouts, we’re brewing the kind of beer that we love to drink, and we’re looking forward to sharing it with everbody who’s willing to join us.
Sean Mahoney, a graphic designer by trade, opened BuckleDown Brewing in 2013 with his friend, Ike Orcutt. After some time as a creative director at a Chicago ad agency and 7 successful years running Foothold Design Studio, Sean began his life in craft beer. With an opportunity to turn a passion into a profession, he and Ike built BuckleDown from the ground up.
He is guided by the tremendous support and love from his wife, Emily, his four amazing boys, and the belief in the power of creativity, hard work, and optimism.
